The usage of "big" and "large"
1. "Big" and "large" can be both used in the case of describing size or extent, but modifying different types of nouns.
ex: big scale models (concrete objects)
large scale operations (abstract nouns)
2. "Big" can be used to described almost everything. It covers more usages than "large" does. We use it alot in informal spoken language.
ex: It's not a big deal!
There's no big difference.

As what you stated, "big" and "large" can be used to describe size or extent, but they modify different types of nouns. So, what are the "different types of nouns"? Could you be more specific about it?
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned above in the example phrases, "big" generally modifies concrete objects like "apple"; "large" on the other hand, can sometimes modify abstract nouns such as "operation" and "scale."
