ALLT Conference
For the big conference holding in the department, everyone plays a significant role before and during the event. I was responsible for airport reception--picking up keynote speakers, our VIP guests from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. That was why I missed the speech that I am much more interested in--Dr. Chin-Chuan Cheng's "Corpora for Advanced Language Learning." However, I got an special chance to talk to Prof. Ik-sang Eom in person during the car ride from Taoyuan to Taipei. It was my first time to privately contact with a scholar. He is a humble, erudite and polite gentleman. We discussed and shared current educational system both in Taiwan and Korea, as well as the organization of AFL department and required courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Throughout the 30-mins relaxing but meaningful talk, I felt proud of our own English learning programs that are considered competitive by academic experts from another quite distinguish culture.

It's a pity that you missed Dr. Cheng's talk. However, i guess being a receptionist and having a chance to talk to a scholar in person is sill a good experience though.
